Alpha Moves, Leading with ease!

Mr MD Mogano
making Alpha
moves and
leading
with ease!

Who are you?

I am Mamadimo Dimakatso Mogano, known as MD

Which primary and high school did you attend?

I attended Subiaco Primary School and St Bede’s High School

Which subjects did you choose and why?

I chose Economics and Accounting Stream because i was good in Economics during my High School years.

How did you decide on your career choice?

I decided on studying towards becoming an Auditor, simply because I once heard my then Accounting Teacher, Sister Anne saying that Auditors earn a lot of money. Coming from a poor background, I always wanted to pursue a career that was paying well.

Tell us about your business?

I co-own and run our businesses with my wife, our businesses focus on Consulting, events management and catering.

What made you want to own/start a business?

Our business started because we realised in 2016 that there is no sustainability in working for somebody be it government or private company. There is no legacy that one can build or leave behind for your family based on employment. The aim of KT Mogano Investments is to build a lasting legacy for our family for generations to come.

Which services do you offer?

We offer business consulting which deals with Internal Auditing, risk management, investigations, compliances, Financial Statements Preparations, Tax and Events Management with deals with catering, food supply and events co-ordinations.

How is it like running your own business?

It’s tough to run a business, but we are improving year by year and getting better on it.

What advice would you give someone who wants to go into a business like yours?

The best advice is to start now, there is no better time to start than now. It’s not going to be easy, but start it.

You were recently appointed as the Deputy Chairman of Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa (IIASA) how do you feel about it and what does that mean for your career?

I was recently elected to be the Deputy Chairman of Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa at the AGM held in November 2021. I have been serving as a Member of the Board of Directors of Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa (IIASA) since 2018 before my election as Deputy Chair.  The Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa is a professional body for all internal auditors within South Africa and is an affiliate to the Global Body of Institute of Internal Auditors. I am honoured to be the Deputy Chair of IIASA as an internal auditor as it’s my way of giving back to my profession that I have served for over 15 years. I am looking forward to contributing to the improvement of how the profession is seen by the public especially in line with the recent corporate scandals and state of capture. The challenge is on for the current board to turn the tide and return the good image of the profession to where it belongs with high integrity.

How can we raise awareness about knowledge and opportunities within your field?

We need to raise awareness through all available media channels, be it social media or campaigns and so forth with the aim of building public confidence on the state of internal audit within South Africa. The State of Capture and the KPMG scandals have exposed a number of unscrupulous stories affecting the profession of auditing as watchdog. We need to go back to the basics and reclaim back our integrity days as guardians of governance in both public and private sector.

What advice or words of encouragement would you give to high school learners? (Motivational quote)

Nothing in life comes easy, hard work pays off. Be ready to work hard to achieve your dreams.

Making a difference through Arts, Meet Molebatsi Motshiliba and Thando Nkosi

Molebatsi Motshiliba

My name is Molebatsi ‘’Mimo’’ Motshiliba.I was born and raised in Soweto Meadowlands Zone 9.

I attended at Emelang Primary School further went to Kelokitso Comprehensive High.

The subjects I chose were not my initial choice because the climate at the time and the pressure from home were forcing me to take the science stream. Meaning Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science & Computer Application Technology.

After finishing high school, I went on a journey of self discovery and Acting, Poetry, Contemporary dance & writing became a  part of me & I wanted to persue my career in one of those industries, until Covid19 pandemic took us to lock down and there was no gigs, no income a plan had to surface.

Thando Nkosi

My name is Thando ‘’ AndManyMore” Nkosi. I was born and bred at Tsakane then went to stay at Geluksdal.

I first started at Funukukhanya Primary School, then in grade 3 I transferred to Veerkener Primary in Benoni.

The subject I chose was influenced by my parent’s view of success. Which is Physical Science, Computer Application Technology & Life Science.

After matriculating I went to study for Information Technology and I majored in Business Analysis at Vaal University of Technology. However I knew deep down that my passion lies in whatever that gives me a platform of self expression. After my internship I dropped my IT career and started focusing on business & arts.

Kasi Karnivals is a mobile amusement theme park that aims to bring entertainment to township families with Creative Carnival Games, Rides and also be a safe space for children.

After a pilot project of eight months we have realised that our business idea holds great potential. On the 10th of August 2020 we only had a trampoline and gradually we expanded to buying a football table (iDiski) and a buzz wire (Ma-Ta-TaZeLa). Due to the demand from our customers for more games we then became creative in creating our very first DIY coin toss game which is called High – High & our second DIY is a marble maze. We also bought a toddler see-saw (Jinki Jonko) & lastly two board games namely Ludo & Snake & Ladder.

In the year 2020 January we moved together to pursue our art career, However Covid-19 pandemic broke and the country was in lockdown.  There was no more performance gigs for us to pay rent & buy food so with our saved up money we invested in buying a trampoline and we saw much impact it had on the children, it also opened our eyes that such fun for our children are scares.

We offer Face Painting, Carnival Games, Party Cup Games, DIY Office Games, Party Cup Games and also Traditional / Indigenous Games.

It’s tough, challenging & demanding of a lot of things like Discipline, Consistency and Creativity, however the rewards are worth it.
